Node Capacity Calculator

Estimate raw and safe throughput capacity for a multi-node setup.

Node capacity

Result

Total raw capacity

1,500 RPS

Safe planned capacity

1,200 RPS

How it works

The calculator multiplies node count by per-node throughput to compute raw cluster capacity, then applies reserve percentage for a safer operating envelope.

Formula

raw_capacity = node_count * capacity_per_node
safe_capacity = raw_capacity * (1 - reserve_pct/100)

Reserve helps absorb spikes, node imbalance and transient degradation.

Example

For 6 nodes at 250 RPS each with 20% reserve, safe capacity is about 1200 RPS.

FAQ

Why keep reserve?

Reserve reduces risk during spikes and partial outages.

Can I use this for autoscaling thresholds?

Yes, safe capacity can guide alert and scaling triggers.

Should I include cross-zone overhead?

Yes, reduce per-node capacity if cross-zone or network cost is relevant.
